The Denmark based Brit returns to Sub-Label Recordings - Yellow Label, with his signature sound across three tracks from the darker side of drum & bass.
Kicking off with the title track Smoke. Inspired by the melodics and rhythms that define the techno genre, fuelled by an aggressive Reese bass, and marching drums. This is a really moody and focused track that sets the tone of the ep instantly.
In Ripples, CELO takes inspiration from the deep minimal sub genre, combining classic tech step drum breaks with a modern sound, full of space and atmospheric depth. With simple melodics running throughout, classic breaks building up before launching into a minimal and dark bassline, with ripping and warping sounds filling all corners of the sound spectrum. This is a powerful track full of energy.
The ep closes with Echoes. A track which takes the listener deeper into the drum n bass spectrum, leaning on heavier influences of earlier jungle breaks fuzed with a rolling modern sound. Building the track with further techno and trance inspired elements, breaks fire along accompanied by wobbling basslines, where the rolling weight of the tracks is broken by blasts of Reese bass.
