The King of Karaoke
The King of Karaoke signals the first ambient and experimental EP release from Olympic Pool Maintenance League, finding a home on Sub-Label Recordings - White Label.
A Newer Hope dives deeply into obscure but rhythmic harmonics and is bookended with chanting by Thai Monks. Its undulations and discordance aim to warp perceptions and create a vivid spacious atmosphere.
The King of Karaoke launches into an atmosphere of ambient real-world familiarity soon shattered by effects and a sustained earth trembling bass. A vintage and discordant melody stumbles its way through the later half of the piece ultimately subsumed by the bass which unearthed it.
Six rounds out the EP in a mesmerising and vibrant way with a sub-harmonic to rattle the faint hearted. Its structure is scaffolded by a delicate yet sublime mid section, waxing a polyrhythmic motif under an ethereal wash.
Whether used as set openers, chillout room features, meditation guides or simply to wash dishes to, these tracks share a delicacy, attention to detail, and compositional curiosity that can be heard across all music explored by Olympic Pool Maintenance League.
